Description:
- Work as a flexible Qualified Practitioner in full support of the Pain Team, in all key areas of Pain Management procedures/care - Responsible for assessing patient needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of a programme of patient care across inpatient and outpatient services in connection with pain management and patient holistic health care needs - Show awareness of research based patient care by participating in practice development, clinical trials and equipment evaluation. - Contribute to policy development and implementation and development for pain services, the directorate and division. - Assess and manage a case load or individual patients that involve complex clinical, pharmacology and social situations, which require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options relating to pain management under the supervision of the pain nurse specialists and consultants - Ensure maintenance of good working relationships, communication and teamwork with the multidisciplinary team. - Ensure all documentation is completed accurately, legibly and confidentially is maintained for patients, visitors and staff.
Ensure prompt reporting/recording of risk management issues. - Maintain the integrity and cleanliness of all basic equipment and store correctly. Ensure personal knowledge in the use and clinical application of this equipment is maintained. - Attend training for all equipment prior to use and ensure attendance is signed and recorded.
- Assist in the induction, training and orientation of new staff to the department by demonstrating basic supervisory skills, including learner nurses, medical staff, support staff and other allied health professionals - Participate in the Appraisal process to ensure personal and Trust objectives are met. - Ensure personal practice /profile is kept up to date in preceptorship period and beyond. - Formally documents care given in line with Trust policies and procedure and in order to maintain accurate patient records. - Support senior colleagues in the maintenance of stock levels.
- Read and comply with all Trust/departmental Policies. Procedures and Protocols - Deals effectively and sensitively with patients/ relatives/carers issues/concerns collaborating with the PALS services and follows the Trust policy on handling complaints. - Attend departmental staff meetings and wider Trust staff engagement and information sharing. .
- Work within national policy frameworks relevant to the patient group i.e. child protection, vulnerable adults, mental health act. - Any other duties at a comparable level of responsibility as may be allocated - Understanding of a range of work procedures and practices, which require expertise within pain management, underpinned by theoretical knowledge or relevant practical experience.
