Description:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Band 5 registered Nurse to join our outpatient team on the Women’s Health Unit at the Bradford Royal Infirmary.
We would invite applications from both experienced and newly qualified nurses as we can offer a personal and professional development plan in order to enhance your nursing skills and knowledge. You will be provided with a supportive supernumerary induction period as we help you develop your confidence in working within this varied role.
The Women’s Health Unit provides a number of specialist gynaecological services which include Colposcopy, Hysteroscopy, Urogynaecology, and the termination of pregnancy (lilac) service. In addition the WHU manage in patient day care for women requiring medical termination of pregnancy this may be undertaken medically or surgically depending on gestation of pregnancy and patient choice.
You will be expected to integrate within our team and train to work across all of these services. Your role will focus on providing nursing care within the lilac service where you will provide telephone assessment and counselling for women seeking a termination of pregnancy, following ultrasound scan you will support women in making the decision regarding the treatment method for termination of pregnancy in accordance with the gestation of pregnancy, patient choice and in keeping with their medical history. You will also learn to counsel women regarding contraceptive choices for the future.
You will be expected to prepare the clinical environment and set up clinics ensuring that equipment is arranged per the specifics of that clinic, ensure referrals are present and support both patients and clinicians throughout patient appointments. In hysteroscopy, cystoscopy and MVA lists you will train as and then work in a scrub nurse role.
Within urogynaecology you may train to work independently treating patients with a range of bladder complaints and assist in urodynamics clinics.
Although usual hours of work for the women’s health unit are from Monday to Friday 08:00- 17:30 (times dependent on clinical sessions allocated) there may be occasional requirement for weekend or night shift cover dependent on the needs of the whole of gynaecology services including acute care.

The Women’s health Unit provides person centred care for women with a wide variety of gynaecological needs. These clinics include hysteroscopy where abnormal uterine bleeding is investigated, colposcopy where the cervix is examined, urogynaecology for women will bladder conditions, out patient cystoscopy and manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) lists, the termination of pregnancy service, and in addition supports the gynaecology assessment and triage unit and the early pregnancy service .
As a band 5 nurse following a period of training you will provide counselling and advice to women seeking a termination of pregnancy. You will be able to advise them on the treatment options available to the patient dependent of the gestation of pregnancy. You will support them in both out patient and in patient management of their termination and then provide them with appropriate contraceptive choices for the future.
As a band 5 staff nurse working within this challenging and varied rotational role you will train as a scrub nurse for hysteroscopy, colposcopy, cystoscopy and MVA providing assistance to the Consultant or Nurse Specialist.
In urogynaecology clinics you may train to provide some bladder treatments and also support clinicians and nurse specialists participating in the smooth running of the clinics, managing equipment and supporting the patient
