Description:

To provide quality care to patients and their families, within Critical Care
To share skills/knowledge with colleagues.
To contribute towards development within the critical care environment
Internal rotation day and night duty
Flexible working across Critical care Units
To be responsible for assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of holistic patient care to a high standard of critically ill patients
To contribute to the overall development of clinical practice within critical care
To support senior staff in the effective management of resources
To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.

  • A registered nurse on part 1 of the professional register, with current NMC registration
  • On the job training given to achieve the in-depth competencies required within Critical Care by preceptorship and study days. An initial supernumerary period of 12 weeks given.
  • Registered Mentor. Mentorship Qualification or relevant equivalent qualification (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period).
  • Attendance on Trust induction course
  • Attendance at mandatory training as per Trust requirement
  • Requires current mentorship passport after period of induction
  • Good communication/interpersonal skills necessary to provide and receive complex information regarding patient’s condition and procedures which occur throughout Critical Care.
  • Awareness of current professional issues.
  • Ability to use tact and persuasive motivational and reassurance skills are required to implement care delivery.
  • An understanding of a range of work procedures and practices which requires expertise within a Critical Care, reinforced with relevant practical expertise and able to provide detailed advice to staff.
  • Commitment to life-long learning through professional development
  • Flexibility in working patterns/internal rotation
  • Maintain an awareness of current Trust issues and ability to work within other clinical areas
  • To lead, inspire and motivate others to high performance by agreeing clear goals and objectives, providing support and guidance and creating opportunities for development
  • To contribute to the development of a culture of high engagement, where staff are empowered and entrusted to provide the best services and care for patients
  • To promote and facilitate innovation and continuous improvement to deliver better services for service users and patients
  • Accountability for the leadership of post holders staff / teams / departments
