Description:

The School Nursing Team deliver health care to children with complex health needs aged 3-19 attending Sherwood Park School. They are responsible for undertaking health assessments, completing and updating care plans, managing emergency situations and providing training for education staff. The post holder will ensure that high quality nursing care is delivered within Sherwood Park School across two campuses.
The post holder will work collaboratively with other professionals involved in the care of children including Children’s Therapists, Educational Staff, School Nursing and Social Services to support and empower children, young people and their families, improve health and give every child the opportunity to develop their full potential.
Main Responsibilities and Duties
The post-holder will ensure that all areas of practice adhere to all current NMC guidance.
Ensure high standards of nursing care are delivered at all times by supporting regular monitoring and evaluating patient outcomes.
Safely administer prescribed medications, monitor their effects and report all medication errors.
Ensure due regard is given to the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients and colleagues and that equal opportunities are practiced.
Takes a pro-active role in maintaining effective communication with all disciplines, children and families.
Maintain accurate and contemporaneous manual and electronic records in all aspects of care provision to promote continuity and partnership, in line with Sutton Health and Care policies and NMC Record Keeping Guidelines
Ensures that all complaints are listened to and that issues identified are addressed appropriately.
Use reflective practice as a method of ensuring that appropriate effective nursing care is delivered.
Reports incidents and near misses promptly and appropriately.
Promote a professional image at all times and be accountable for own clinical practice.
Ensures that nursing care is child focused and that children’s privacy and dignity are maintained at all times.
