We have 52 adult critical care beds in four critical care units on three sites.
University College Hospital (UCH) has a large general adult ICU mostly taking emergency patients from the ED and general wards (working closely with our 24/7 outreach team), as well as tertiary referrals from across Britain and abroad. Two other highly specialised critical care units take patients undergoing complex thoracic, head & neck, urological and gastro-intestinal surgery, while the Grafton Way ICU primarily takes haematology patients.
The UCLH Critical Care Team is committed to research, development and innovation and quality improvement to improve health outcomes and to enhance patient and staff experience.
Development pathways for Band 6, Band 7 and Band 8 roles are clearly laid out and supported.

OUR BAND 5 CRITICAL CARE STAFF NURSE PATHWAY COMPRISES:

Automatic enrolment to our in-house “Introduction to Critical care Course”
Support from the in-house Education Team to complete the nationally recognised ‘Critical Care Steps’ Competency Framework
Rotations across General Adult, Post-surgical and Haematology CCUs
Access to North Central London Qualification in Specialties (NCL QIS) Adult Critical Care Course (60 MSc or BSc credits). Course fees will be fully funded with 50% study leave granted (subject to a 9-months contractual tie-in post completion).
