Description:

The Staff Research Associate I position in the area of basic and applied neuroimaging (with specific focus on MRI, PET and computer modeling of neurodegeneration) is available within the UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging.
Under general supervision and guidance from the supervisor, Dr. Ashish Raj, the successful candidate will perform research logistics tasks and projects in the Brain Networks Laboratory a.k.a “RajLab”. The Brain Networks Laboratory focuses on understanding the mechanisms of healthy and diseased brains by applying computational tools to neuroimaging data.
The position entails various roles, from routine image processing and statistics.
The Department of Radiology & Biomedical Imaging at UCSF combines clinical excellence, cutting-edge research, and outstanding education in a leading academic health sciences institution.
A key requirement is for the SRA to cement collaborative projects with the department of Neurology, where several ongoing funded projects are underway. SRA will hence work closely with Dr Kamalini Ranasinghe and others at the Memory and Aging Clinic (MAC). As part of the role, the SRA I will have the opportunity to work closely with neurologist, psychiatrists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, imaging scientists and engineers. The knowledge and skills learned provide excellent preparation for medical school or for graduate school in neuroscience, bioengineering, and psychology.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The UCSF Department of Radiology Imaging IT team architects, implements, and manages the computer systems and networks needed to support more than 700,000 imaging studies annually. Our team manages the full stack from network to application and end user support. The team provide Monday – Friday, 8am to 5pm support including evening and weekend call to support the Medical Center needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous exposure to a biomedical research laboratory environment.
  • Experience with basic science methodology and neuroscience
  • Demonstrated record of reliability and excellent attendance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in imaging science research, especially neuroimaging
  • Knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases and/or neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Working knowledge of any scientific programming language such as MATLAB, Python, C++ or R.
  • Ability to work with diverse team of researchers, scientists, and students
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work independently, exercising judgement and initiative
