About the Role

  • This role reports to Director of Internal Medicine
  • This position fulfils accountabilities and responsibilities in accordance with Metro South’s purpose and objectives.
  • Foster a culture of interprofessional collaboration and leadership through understanding the role and the roles of others in the interprofessional team leveraging this knowledge to establish and meet client goals and inform service direction.
  • Staffing and budget responsibilities:
  • Supervisory and leadership responsibilities commensurate with a senior medical officer role which involves leading clinical teams, supervising junior medical officers and liaising with other senior clinician colleagues.
  • Provision of inpatient, outpatient and consultative general medical services, including participation in the on-call general medicine roster.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical protocols; monitoring and reporting of benchmarks; and developing General Medicine models of care.
  • Engage with and lead multidisciplinary teams providing patient care.
  • Contribute to achievement of excellence in patient flow, advance care planning, quality use of medicines and other service priorities of the Department of Internal Medicine
  • Develop and maintain strong interdepartmental relationships in respect of admitting, managing and discharging patients presenting to the Emergency Department and Medical Assessment and Planning Units.
