Description:

Claire’s are recruiting a Statutory Compliance Manager with European language skills to join our European Finance team.
This role can be offered on a hybrid basis working 3 days a week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) from our European HQ in Erdington.

The purpose of the role of is to ensure compliance with local statutory accounting and tax regulations for a number of Claire’s European entities/countries, by

  • Preparing the statutory accounts with local reporting requirements from existing accounting records in US Gaap (supported by local outsourcers)
  • Working closely with the General Accounting Team
  • Maintaining in-house documentation on statutory and corporation tax compliance requirements and processes
  • Assisting in the preparation of corporation tax returns
  • Supporting in all local financial legislative requirements including VAT and Withholding Taxes
  • Aiding general accounting requirements within the department
  • Facilitating other statutory, statistical and tax filings as necessary.
  • Maintaining legally required company secretarial records
  • Supporting statutory and tax audits
  • Supporting the Treasury team with KYC requirements
  • Working closely with country specific outsourcers and maintaining “Huddle” relationship
  • Supporting Line Manager with ad hoc requirements

The Statutory Accounting Manager must ensure that the business has accurate information about local accounting, statutory and tax requirements affecting their areas of responsibility. Working closely with the general accounting team and tax compliance outsourcers, the accountant must ensure that statutory accounts, tax and other associated returns are submitted to the relevant authorities in a timely manner.
Key responsibilities include:

Statutory Accounts:

  • Preparation of company accounts and audit file from month-end files in US Gaap
  • Preparation of statutory adjustments including period 13 postings in Oracle
  • Retained earnings reconciliation & roll-over
  • Analysis of major P&L items, prior year variance analysis
  • Support of the statutory audit process
  • Preparation of statutory financial accounts including notes; with some local outsourcer assistance
  • Collection and preparation of legal documents (Shareholders’ resolutions, directors’ appointments, etc.)
  • Administration of the filing of the statutory accounts
  • Maintaining the mapping of US Gaap accounts to statutory reporting nominal categories

Regulatory Framework

  • Maintenance of process documentation regarding statutory accounting and tax compliance processes
  • Maintenance of a standing file with statutory and corporation tax requirements for selected countries
  • Maintain legally required company secretarial records
  • Ensure all financial business legislative requirements are known and adhered too

Tax

  • Maintain a timetable of all tax declaration due dates and tax payment due dates
  • Prepare and maintain process notes for the preparation and filing of tax returns
  • Work closely with local outsourcers in the preparation of all necessary tax returns, intrastat returns and other monthly returns such as withholding tax, tourism tax, etc.
  • Maintain book to tax reconciliations
  • Completion of tax return data, submissions and payments
  • Administer various correspondence with local tax authorities
  • Support tax audits as appropriate
  • Prepare quarterly estimates of effective tax rates
  • Reconcile the annual US Gaap estimate of current and deferred CT charges with the final tax returns and book the necessary adjustments in US Gaap (Tax Prior Year Adjustments)

What are we looking for?

To be considered for this role we are keen to hear from candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Solid experience as financial accountant
  • Experience in statutory accounts preparation and tax return preparation
  • Ability to speak at least one European language in addition to English
  • Understanding of UK Gaap or statutory accounting in another jurisdiction (ie Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Portugal, Italy, Spain)
  • Understanding of statutory accounts preparation process
  • Qualified (UK: ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or similar European qualification), or qualified through experience
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
