About The Position
If you are passionate about STEM outreach, enjoy building strong partnerships with schools, academics and the broader Diversity and Inclusion community, and have strong planning and organisation skills, then we have an exciting opportunity for you!
The STEM Outreach Coordinator is responsible for implementing programs and initiatives to promote diversity in STEM fields and increase engagement with students, mentors and teachers. Our activities aim to showcase diverse role models and mentors from various STEM fields to inspire students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. This includes facilitating RMIT student-led demonstrations and workshops.
A primary responsibility of this role is to oversee the successful delivery of the In2science program, in collaboration with partner universities and the Victorian Department of Education and Training. This involves recruiting and placing RMIT STEM students into high schools as peer mentors, and building strong relationships with schools, maintaining comprehensive records, reporting and promotion of the program.
The Coordinator may occasionally need to work outside of standard hours and deliver initiatives in regional areas. Leave restrictions may be applicable during busy periods.
To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

Demonstrated communication, relationship building and negotiation skills with the ability to work collegiately with academic and professional staff, students, and external clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a demanding high-volume environment with excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
  • Demonstrated project management experience to ensure the achievement of project goals, participation targets and semester objectives.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate students towards the achievement of educational, personal and community engagement objectives, and communicate with students regarding effective learning.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in the field of STEM education.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer software packages with accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to learn new technical skills.
