APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Responsibilities:

MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB

  • Make judgements on the suitability of reusable instruments in consultation with surgical teams and those responsible for decontamination.
  • Determine appropriate instrument-set structures designed to assist in the prevention of instruments migrating between sets in consultation with clinical specialists and decontamination teams.
  • Ensure robust process is in place to monitor supplementary instruments
  • Ensure that guidance on tracking and traceability is appropriately applied to all instruments (including loan sets) and collaborate with those responsible for patient records to ensure any patient with whom they are used can be identified and linked to the sets or individual instruments used.
  • Ensure that missing or damaged surgical instruments are replaced preserving the appropriate set structure.
  • Oversee the monitoring of the condition and suitability of surgical instruments.
  • Ensure instruments no longer used are removed from sets.
  • Work with the budget holder to ensure instrument sets with missing or damaged items are identified and updated.
  • Attend weekly meetings with sterile services and operations team to review service reports and provide timely updates.
  • Investigate any incidents that pertain to sterile services in consultation with the surgical teams.
  • Review the daily production summary and action any necessary tasks that arise from the report.
