As a member of the Auckland Distribution Centre team and reporting to the Despatch Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that we are using our newly installed SSi-Schaefer Goods-to-Person (GTP) Automation to get the best possible outcomes. You will be the initial point of escalation for team members when issues occur on the GTP.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with SSi Schaefer technician based on site
- Set the automation up to enable operations to start working at full efficiency from start of shift – initial release of orders, heating glue up, resolution of any minor issues.
- When issues occur, problem solve to identify where the issues are occurring and feed information to SSi technician to assist with timely resolution.
- Enter the automation in accordance with safe work practices to fix alignment and tote issues – no tools needed.
- Monitor automation status dashboard to identify issues.
- Observe and listen to the automation to identify any changes in performance and highlight to SSi technician
- Balance the different work priorities on the automation to ensure that emergency orders are available for our customers on time
- Develop high-level understanding of how the mechanical/electrical and software components of the automation work, to enable with identification of issues
- Release orders (carton and tote) to ensure orders are available for departure time, and workload is consistent for pickers at pick stations.
- Communicate to key people when issues occur that may impact branches / customers.
- Monitor the system for any orders that are not releasing, and resolve any issues.
What you need to be successful:
- Strong bent towards machinery and automation
- Ability to work independently towards an outcome
- Strong problem solving skills, with ability to apply these in a situation under pressure
- Ability to follow a process consistently
- Curiosity to understand and improve how we operate the automation
- Good communication skills
- Good level of physical capability and comfort in confined spaces – there are ladders to access the front of the automation, and this person will be required to enter the automation storage area
- Proficient with computer skills.
