Description:

Alberta Newsprint Company (ANC), a joint venture of the Stern Group and West Fraser Timber Company Ltd., is a leading manufacturer of premium paper products. Located in Whitecourt, and operating with a non-unionized workforce, the firm’s paper mill—the first in Alberta—produces paper of such high quality that it has become the standard by which other paper products manufactured in North America are measured. We are currently recruiting for the role of Stores and Purchasing Manager. This position reports to the Corporate Controller and will spearhead Alberta Newsprint Company’s procurement endeavors and oversee the operations of our Stores department. The ideal candidate will be tasked with developing and executing strategic purchasing plans, fostering positive supplier relationships, collaborating with internal departments to fulfill their supply requirements, and leading the purchasing team in their day-to-day functions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a relevant field.
  • 5 to 7 years proven experience in procurement management or a similar role.
  • Extensive understanding of inventory management and supply chain principles.
  • Familiarity with inventory software management systems, including Hexagon is ideal.
  • Understanding of maintenance requirements and inventory/parts requests.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership capabilities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong aptitude for critical thinking and negotiation.
  • Outstanding planning and organizational abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to work autonomously.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and move heavy items up to 50lbs is required.
  • Stand, walk and move around the warehouse and/or storage areas for extended periods.
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts or pallet jacks, if required.
  • Sitting at a computer from time-to-time is also required.
    You must be located in or willing to relocate to Whitecourt, AB to work in-person at our mill facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Formulating and executing effective purchasing strategies aligned with company objectives.
  • Directing daily purchasing operations, supervising personnel, and overseeing inventory management.
  • Completing purchasing and sourcing duties alongside the Buyer, as needed.
  • Cultivating strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, prices, and delivery schedules.
  • Maintaining comprehensive supplier databases, purchase records, and associated documentation; most of which is done via our CMMS, Hexagon.
  • Collaborating with Stores Technicians to assess and manage inventory needs efficiently.
  • Closely liaising with internal departments, such as Maintenance, to ensure their inventory and procurement needs are met both strategically and in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring all procured items adhere to quality standards and specifications.
  • Generating cost estimates and managing budgets effectively.
  • Continuously refining purchasing systems and processes to enhance efficiency.
  • Providing comprehensive training to new hires on procurement procedures and system utilization.
  • Other duties as required.
