The Environment & Climate Change Unit prepares and plans for complex environmental, sustainability and engineering programs and projects to achieve quality outcomes for the residents and environment of the Northern Beaches.
The Stormwater & Floodplain Engineering Group within Environment & Climate Change Unit provides both strategic and operational management for the Council’s stormwater assets and floodplain management. This team is tasked with identifying and effectively managing flood risks throughout the local government area. Additionally, the team is responsible for ensuring the high-performance delivery of stormwater asset services. These services include construction, operation, maintenance, and sustainable renewal, all aimed at meeting community needs while minimising environmental impact.
You will be working within the Stormwater Design and Delivery service of the team. The SDD team is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of stormwater and drainage infrastructure across the Northern Beaches. Some projects that the SDD team is currently working on include the South Collaroy Foreshore Renewal, North Harbour Catchment Study, multiple Drainage Improvements, Augmentations, and Upgrades across the LGA, and Stormwater Quality Improvements at several locations, including Dee Why Beach and Brookvale Creek.
The SDD team also works closely with Capital Projects Business Unit, which provides a range of capital works program management, project management and design services to the organisation and is committed to providing excellent service to our community. The service provides timely and accurate advice, and strives to use best practice methods while developing new and innovative solutions to problems in an effective and environmentally sustainable manner.

The Capital Projects Business Unit delivers projects across a range of assets, including but not limited to:

  • Roads and footpaths
  • Drainage and major environmental projects including coastal protection works and creek rehabilitation
  • Buildings
  • Parks and recreation

The key focus areas of this role include:

  • Applying best-practice project management principles and internal project delivery frameworks to successfully deliver planned stormwater projects, on-time and on-budget, ensuring that individual project objectives and overall program outcomes are met.
  • Developing, progressing, and refining stormwater drainage designs from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction, ensuring that final outputs are compliant with Council’s policies and standards and in line with industry best-practice.
  • Coordinating the management and delivery of stormwater capital works to agreed specifications, timescales, and approved budgets, including safety, contract management, risk management, community engagement, and stakeholder consultation
