The MNS Bridge Practice supports and leads civil infrastructure capital improvement projects spanning the Transportation, Flood Control, and Water Resources disciplines. Engineers work in a hybrid setting with workspace available at any MNS office up to full-time while fully supporting remote work. The Practice has three primary focus areas:

  • Providing consistent quality structural design services to our Clients and Community,
  • Providing excellent growth and development opportunities for bridge engineers and professionals such that technical excellence is achievable through project opportunities and mentorship, and career opportunities are available through interest and initiative,
  • Providing a highly supportive and communicative atmosphere centered on inclusion and teamwork and rooted in trust, understanding, and flexibility.

Requirements:
As a part of the MNS Bridge Practice, you will be responsible for a wide range of technical production, including preparing structural plans, specifications, cost estimates, calculations, reports, and general technical support for civil infrastructure projects including highway & railway bridges, retaining walls, overhead signs & gantries, culverts, dams & reservoirs, pipes, pump stations, and other transportation and water related structures. You will primarily support Southern & Central California projects. You will have the opportunity to grow your technical competency focusing on the direction of your choice under the guidance and with the support of senior engineers and managers such that you can take on increasingly challenging tasks with commensurately increasing responsibility and autonomy.
Anticipated responsibilities include the following:

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. Civil Engineering. M.S. Structural Engineering highly preferred.
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Minimum 5-10+ years of progressive work experience in structural/bridge design.

Responsibilities:

  • Capital projects are often large and multi-disciplinary, involving all civil technical disciplines, often from multiple public and private organizations, as well as contract management and oversight professionals from multiple agencies. For the consultant to provide the most effective service and phased deliverables, exceedingly talented communicators and collaborators are required. It is our experience and firm belief that the most valuable skill for the long-term success of the bridge engineer is the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas, both written and spoken. You will be required to communicate in all forms, regularly, with the understanding that your communication is a reflection of our local competency, our larger business, and our dedication to professionalism.
  • Preparation of construction/contract documents (PS&E), technical studies and reports, and supporting calculations and documentation.
  • Competency in the use of bridge specific finite element analysis, section analysis, design, post-processing, and related software.
  • Application of bridge design safety code requirements, including AASHTO LRFD.
  • Application of Seismic Design concepts, including Caltrans Seismic Design Criteria.
  • Bridge inspections and load ratings as a function of bridge maintenance, preservation, rehabilitation, and retrofit work. An opportunity to become an NHI certified bridge safety inspector as a component of your overall responsibilities may be available in time.
  • Ability to perform construction site visits and offer construction support engineering services, to include responding to contractor RFI’s and reviewing shop submittals.
  • Ability to coordinate with CADD technicians to ensure timely and accurate plan preparation. Some drafting on the part of the engineer may be requested.
  • Contribution at some level to proposals for new work, including assistance with developing scope, fee, presentations, interviewing, and relationship building with agencies and clients, may be requested.
  • Ability to manage and track your time, with some assistance, amidst a multitude of deadlines.
