Description:

This is an opportunity for a talented self-starter to play a leading role to develop and deliver the University’s Sustainable Futures research strategy, supporting Manchester’s national and international influence in this leading research area.
Sustainable Futures is one of four Research Platforms at The University of Manchester which provide forums, focus and resources to connect, drive and amplify interdisciplinary collaborations.

The role will collaborate closely with a wide range of University teams and foster strong relationships across the following key elements:

  • Creating opportunities for interdisciplinary research and developing forums (online, on-campus and externally) to connect researchers and to foster synergies and collaborations focussed on delivering the strategic objectives of the Sustainable Futures research platform;
  • Building commitment to a shared purpose through engagement with the Director and Deputy Director, Challenge Leads and external stakeholders to explore opportunities and prioritise and coordinate our research response from Sustainable Futures;
  • Mobilising and maintaining interdisciplinary communities for large-scale collaborations in response to relevant funding opportunities;
  • Promoting and celebrating our research through increasing visibility, internally and externally (through website, newsletters, social media and showcase events), and showcasing strengths and the difference we are making through our environmental sustainability research;
  • Co-leading the shared professional support across all research platforms.

You will have experience of the delivery and oversight of multiple projects in a changing environment, be action-oriented, creative and self-motivated. You will have excellent people and communication skills with the ability to influence and challenge as well as a track record of building and leading collaborative relationships with senior academics and external stakeholder towards delivering common strategic objectives, ideally around environmental sustainability challenges. Line management experience is also essential.
You should provide evidence in your application that you meet the essential knowledge, skills and experience stated in the job description. A CV is not always sufficient to show this and we suggest that you use the personal statement section of the job application to give us a brief explanation and examples of how you feel you meet the criteria.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating opportunities for interdisciplinary research and developing forums (online, on-campus and externally) to connect researchers and to foster synergies and collaborations focussed on delivering the strategic objectives of the Sustainable Futures research platform;
  • Building commitment to a shared purpose through engagement with the Director and Deputy Director, Challenge Leads and external stakeholders to explore opportunities and prioritise and coordinate our research response from Sustainable Futures;
  • Mobilising and maintaining interdisciplinary communities for large-scale collaborations in response to relevant funding opportunities;
  • Promoting and celebrating our research through increasing visibility, internally and externally (through website, newsletters, social media and showcase events), and showcasing strengths and the difference we are making through our environmental sustainability research;
  • Co-leading the shared professional support across all research platforms
