PAL Aerospace is currently seeking qualified applications for a Structural Assessment / Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Engineer. We are recruiting for multiple positions, and open to all experience levels. With flexibility in mind, we welcome candidates throughout Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces to apply. Our employees can work from any of our PAL offices throughout Eastern Canada, with options for hybrid and remote depending on the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 3 years work experience in a technical engineering role supporting aircraft development, modifications and/or repairs.
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Candidates with highly applicable experience (5 years) will be considered in lieu of engineering degree
  • Knowledge of airworthiness regulations and standards from Transport Canada, FAA and/or EASA is preferred.
  • Knowledge and direct experience in Design Approval Organization (DAO) activities is preferred
  • Experience with cad software (Solidworks and AutoCAD software packages is preferred)
  • Experience and familiarity with aircraft structures and static stress analysis.
  • Knowledge and experience in:
  • Finite Element Modelling Software packages (i.e., FEMAP/NASTRAN)
  • Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Software packages (i.e., NASGRO)
  • Experience in preparation of engineering reports
  • Experience with aircraft procedures and publications such as AMM, SRM, AFM, IPC, scheduled maintenance, etc.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills to be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal communication, writing and publication skills with strong attention to details.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment with strong interpersonal skills

Responsibilities:

  • Perform applicable work in all areas of aircraft modification and repair projects for wide range of aircraft from normal through transport category fixed and rotary wing.
  • Perform structural analysis including static, dynamic, fatigue and damage tolerance.
  • Build Finite Element Models (FEMs) using CAD geometry, meshing, and running solutions.
  • Able to manipulate large scale finite element models
  • Able to perform classical stress analysis calculations
  • Define and establish inspection programs based on fatigue and damage tolerance assessments
  • Sizing of structural components, parts, and assemblies from a static stress and fatigue point of view
  • Determination of fatigue allowable stress levels for sizing
  • Support the structural design process to ensure required quality for fatigue and damage tolerance is achieved.
  • Work on individual projects/tasks or as part of a group.
  • Preparation of engineering and airworthiness documentation:
  • Reports on engineering analysis clearly documenting methodology, assumptions, reference data, margins of safety, etc.
  • Airworthiness compliance reports to fulfill certification requirements related to analysis performed.
  • Provide support and technical expertise in the area of structural strength to other engineering functions
  • Other duties as assigned
