PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with a preference for those who already hold or are currently pursuing a Master’s degree.
- Registered Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with APEGA
- 0-2 years of experience in a structural engineering firm.
- Knowledge of structural design in steel and concrete structures is preferred.
- Ability to conceptualize design with an understanding of constructability.
- Strong attention to detail and produce error-free, high quality output.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge with structural software SAP, SAFE or ETABS is preferred
- Committed to client service and technical excellence
- Team player with ability to work independently with minimum direction

As a Structural Engineer-in-Training, you will be faced with a myriad of challenges that will require you to be a versatile and creative thinker. The focus of this position will be on the structural design of building components, so you will learn to conceptualize structural and architectural details in three dimensions with ease.

The Calgary team you’ll be part of is a young, energetic group where everyone is committed to helping each other succeed. Our culture is strong. It is common to become friends as well as colleagues. We have social events such at skiing, biking, golf, running, Calgary Stampede and trivia, some hosted by RJC and others organized by people just wanting to spend time outside the office together. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare detailed structural design of buildings composed of primarily concrete, structural steel, and wood structural elements. Building types include commercial, residential, office, institutional and sports/recreation buildings.
- Assist with development of preliminary structural design concepts
- Work with the project team from conceptual and preliminary stages of design through to completion
- Assist with design checks for other engineers’ work (portions of projects)
- Ensure quality compliance for your engineering design work by maintaining design/checking notes
- Provide construction support to active projects, including answering contractor questions and on occasion conducting site visits to review structural work.
