Description:

2 x Student term positions, working 75 hours bi-weekly, at $30.00 per hour:
A hiring preference will apply for qualified candidates of Canadian Indigenous ancestry, with a priority for qualified Yukon First Nation candidates.

Eligibility

  • Any current undergraduate student, recent graduate student, and/or individual taking post-secondary training in environmental science, social science or a similar field of study is preferred. Students with relevant work experience may be considered.
  • General knowledge of the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act, as well as Yukon First Nations and First Nation Agreements, is a strong preference.

Working May through September in the Whitehorse Head Office, Student Assessment Officers will be supporting the Designated Office Assessment Team or the Executive Committee Team. Student Assessment Officers will participate and assist their teams in:

  • Conducting environmental and socio-economic assessments in their designated jurisdiction
  • Identifying environmental and socio-economic effects of projects
  • Ensuring that participants understand the assessment review process and how to best participate in that process
  • Engaging with communities, proponents, Government of Canada, First Nations, and Yukon Government
  • Preparing detailed evidence-based recommendation reports that present assessment review outcomes
