Description:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An undergraduate degree; focusing on business, marketing, HR, communications or public relations preferred.
  • Two to three years’ experience in a post-secondary student engagement/student services is preferred.
  • Computer proficiency in a Windows environment using MS Office applications, social media and Google applications; experience with website Content Management Systems (CMS) is an asset.
  • Strong written communication and creative writing skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, consultation, and communication skills; experience with public speaking and understanding of cross-cultural communications.
  • Experience with project & event management with the ability to work on multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to work well in a multicultural, multilingual environment with students and faculty from many countries, cultures, linguistic groups, religions, sexualities and genders.
  • Must demonstrate a strong desire to work in a team-based environment to meet team goals and to maintain a collaborative, efficient team dynamic, contributing to a positive team culture.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment and proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Outcome-oriented and high attention to detail and the student experience.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines under pressure with a demanding workload.

Responsibilities:

  • Executes programs & events that promote student success, retention & wellness, and cultivates a strong sense of community by promoting student involvement.
  • Maintains expertise and awareness of university policy and guidance for events management and ensures policies are adhered to and risks are managed for all student engagement events and activities.
  • Organizes and implements plans and activities for new student Orientation.
  • Ensures effective communication plans that share appropriate and consistent messaging to students across mediums & platforms.
  • Responsible for sending out a weekly student e-newsletter to current students, which serves as the main form of communication between the faculty and the ongoing students.
  • Provides content and updates to the Business website, specifically related to the Student Services and academic programs areas; under direction of SCE Lead, works with Communications & Marketing Service Partner and/or contract communications professionals in any larger scale website revisions.
  • Creates unique and specialized programs and activities that can support the large and diverse student population, including working closely with colleagues in the areas of international and indigenous engagement.
  • Supports the SCE Lead in developing a proposal to create, implement, support and maintain a student mentorship program.
  • Under the guidance and direction of the SCE Lead, participates in collection of data and metrics to support reporting on the evaluation of the effectiveness of programming efforts.
  • Considers EDII and accessibility practices in all student activities and initiatives.
  • Under direction of SCE Lead, contributes to the creation of social media/digital marketing.
  • Works on special projects and initiatives targeted towards current Faculty of Business students.
  • Creates and implements outreach events and programming that maximize the reach and reputation of the Business Undergraduate Office unit.
  • Assist in creating unique advising opportunities for current students (i.e. pop-up advising, information sessions, etc.), and supports the advising team on initiatives when appropriate.
  • Under direction of SCE Lead, recruits, trains/onboards, manages, and schedules a volunteer pool.
