Description:

DESCRIPTION:

The Student Engagement and Transition Coordinator will coordinate all first-year engagement and year round transition activities, as well as support all aspects of the Orientation Program at King’s University College.

This position’s primary areas of responsibility are:

  • Developing, delivering, and assessing programs and initiatives that encourage student engagement and support transitions throughout the university experience including summer programs and peer mentoring programs.
  • Supporting student leadership training for Orientation Leaders and other student leaders at King’s.
  • Working with campus partners (Western, Affiliates, and King’s) and Orientation Program student leaders to support and develop all aspects of the Orientation Program (hiring and volunteer selections, planning and execution of events, communications, training, yearlong program, policy development, risk management)
  • Ensuring that the King’s Orientation Program meets King’s mission and values, established standards, and best practices in meeting the student development needs of all incoming King’s students through assessment and attention to research and emerging standards
  • Developing and implement a plan for student leader involvement in student engagement events and initiatives, with appropriate training and supervision of student leaders
  • Implementing assessment strategies to inform future program development

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (UNLESS IDENTIFIED AS PREFERRED):

  • The successful candidate must:
  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of previous relevant experience
  • Knowledge of best practices related to student development and student success
  • Ability to take initiative, manage multiple priorities, juggle complex tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation (public speaking), interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills with strong administrative, marketing and public relations skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in the application of student learning strategies and theory an asset.
  • Ability to work with diverse communities with respect, sensitivity, creativity, innovation, and cultural understanding.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment and the ability to work effectively with University staff, students, faculty and build relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of volunteer management, human resources practices and ethical recruitment practices an asset
  • Proficient with a wide range of technical systems and tools as a regular function of work, including content management systems, project management software, databases, word processing and spreadsheet applications such as MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Requires flexibility to work long hours with the expectation of regular evening and weekend work at key points in the program cycles.
