Description:
SUMMARY
The Student Researcher Viral Genomics will conduct guided research using primary and metadata on animal and human viral genomics and phylogeography in support of Dr. Lange’s research activities. This is an educational role with the intent of providing learning opportunities and practical training to the individual while they are enrolled as a student at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. The individual will conduct a main research project and may support other projects in the realm of genomic/bioinformatic research under the supervision and direction of Dr. Christian Lange. The work will involve interactions/collaboration with other students as well as researchers outside of KPU.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in an appropriate academic program at KPU.
- Successful completion of Genetics (2320) or equivalent and additional foundational courses in applicable Biology topics (may include Molecular Genetics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology)
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new skills and follow protocols.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written English language skills.
- Detail oriented, with excellent organizational and time management skills and demonstrate adability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work alone or in groups
- General research and other skills
- Ability to use or learn software applications appropriate to the project (i.e. word processing, data base, spreadsheets, statistical, presentation, graphics, and bioinformatic software).
- Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of cultural environments; and readiness to adopt a productive working culture (timekeeping, time management, collegiality, mutual respect, etc.).
