Description:

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for someone with the following experience, qualifications and /or skillsets:

  • SACE registered.
  • A minimum of 7 years of IEB experience is a requirement.
  • Be an appropriately qualified Afrikaans teacher.
  • Having IEB matric marking experience will be a requirement.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to work well in managing and leading a team; whilst creating positive working relationships with respective role players.
  • Energetic, creative, self-motivated and an innovative teacher.
  • Establish a teaching environment that is nurturing, and which promotes engaged learning.
  • Behave in a professional manner with regard to punctuality, behaviour, and standards of work.
  • Implementing and monitoring an appropriate individualised approach to education through assessment, educational programme design and delivery, resource development, data collection and reporting.
  • Have a thorough understanding of appropriate assessment standards.
  • Innovative ideas, the flexibility to embrace changes in education, integrating IT into your teaching methods and a thorough understanding of the South African curriculum.
  • Ensuring that planning is completed and is carried out consistently and collaboratively.
  • Ensuring that the Afrikaans staff are supported in the development of their teaching and learning programmes.
  • Motivating and encouraging staff to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Build a caring and supportive environment in which all learners will thrive.
  • Ensuring that portfolio moderation takes place and that records are kept of these.
  • Constructing accurate informative and timely reports to learners and their parents about learning and achievement.
  • Attending Subject Head meetings and ensuring that pertinent information is shared with teachers in the department.
  • Run weekly departmental meeting to ensure that all new information is cascaded and shared with staff.
  • Teach extra lessons, when required.
  • Be fully involved in the High School’s extramural programme.
  • Attend all special occasions at the discretion of the relevant Head.

The successful candidate is required to undertake any other reasonable tasks that the Head of the School determines. Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual responsibility undertaken may not be identified. The duties outlined above are not intended as a restrictive list and may be extended or altered to include other tasks that are appropriate with the role.
The successful candidate will head up the Afrikaans department, providing the vision and leadership for the department. They will need to be flexible, have good organisational and interpersonal skills with an exemplary work ethic, drive, and attention to detail. The position will report to the Head of the High School and the Academic Head and will work in collaboration with the academic staff.
Commitment to the school’s ethos and values are essential. This position is a full time, permanent position. Curro Hillcrest has a strong Christian foundation, and the successful candidate must be willing to promote and support this foundation.
The successful candidate will start on 01 July 2024.
