Description:

Position: Summer Camp Lead Instructor
Hours: 20-40 hours/week, July 1-August 16; must attend orientation and training sessions; must be available to work a minimum of one full week morning and afternoon sessions OR two half-day sessions.
Schedule: 8:30am-12:30pm/12:30pm-4:30pm/8:30am-4:30pm
Salary: $17.59-$23.42, DOE

DESCRIPTION:

Summer Camp Lead Instructors are responsible for the day-to-day supervision and management of the summer camp program for young children in a classroom/playground environment. We offer morning and afternoon half-day camps for children ages 2 ½ - 6.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Experience working with young children, including knowledge of age-appropriate best practices in positive communication and discipline.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for children ages 2-6.
  • Ability to maintain a basic daily schedule while remaining flexible as needed.
  • Ability to adhere to safety practices and procedures as required by state and federal laws.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records, understand written instructions and procedures, prepare and write pertinent documents, and speak clearly and understandably.
  • Ability to perform the tasks and functions as required by the job including preparing and implementing age-appropriate programs and activities, providing positive reinforcement to children and dispensing disciplinary practices according to organization philosophy.
  • Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of people.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Reliable transportation.
  • Participation in the employee orientation, including the Mandated Reporter Training, pass a required background check and provide documentation that meets I-9 requirements. Camps are enrollment driven and may be canceled with minimal notice.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and implements camp programs for children ages 2 ½ - 6 in accordance with developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy.
  • Works with Family Services Manager to plan theme-based lessons and activities.
  • Attends organization onboarding processes and required trainings.
  • Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
  • Supervises campers and ensures their safety and general well-being, including administering basic first aid when needed.
  • Supervises camp assistants.
  • Maintains a schedule of activities for camp participants, while remaining flexible as needed.
  • Organizes and supervises various group activities.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the site.
  • Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
  • Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Maintains awareness of campers’ dietary restrictions/allergies and ensures that appropriate snacks are distributed to them.
  • Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing where your campers and camp assistants are at all times.
  • Maintains constant surveillance of the pool/body of water areas, if applicable.
