Job Description
AECOM’s Ontario Ecology team looking for individuals to fill contract positions for the position of Ecology Technician to support our existing projects activities and to grow our capacity to serve clients on challenging and exciting projects across the province during the summer 2024.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated and accountable, enjoy working outdoors, work well collaboratively with other team members, and be an effective communicator. Experience conducting biological/environmental field work would be an asset.
The position will involve working with technical leads who provide support on ecological investigations including field work in support of baseline studies, environmental impact assessments, Species at Risk permitting and mitigation plans, and related scopes of work.

Key roles for the position include:

  • Conduct data collection and field investigations to document baseline conditions according to study requirements in urban and remote sites in southern and central Ontario
  • Work as part of small and large field crews
  • Data entry and report writing
  • Adhere to AECOM’s Health and Safety Protocols
  • This position will require individuals to work remotely in rugged terrain within southern and central Ontario for periods of time as part of field crews based on project locations

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Environmental Science or Biology, from a recognized University or College, or enrolled in and soon to graduate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Training and experience identifying flora and fauna of Ontario (e.g. plants, birds, amphibians, mammals, insects, fish, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience conducting biological field work in southern and northern Ontario.
  • Experience writing and preparing technical reports.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Has access to a vehicle for conducting field work.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to work in both field and office environments.
  • Valid First Aid + CPR.
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License.
