QUALIFICATIONS

To be eligible for summer student employment, individuals must:

  • At minimum have a high school diploma.
  • enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution or recently graduated within the last 6 months
  • students may be enrolled in part-time or full-time studies

Preference for the program support position will be given to students with an Academic focus in Social Work . This can include enrollment in a Social Work Degree or Diploma program or a related program such as:

  • A related degree in BA Child Studies/Child & Youth Care, BA Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc. Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development, Law Degree.
  • A related diploma in Addictions/Counseling, Child and Youth Care, Human Services, or Criminal Justice.

Preference for the Administrative Support position will be given to those applicants with an administrative academic background including Business Certificate or Diploma programs, Financial management, and Office Administrative programs.

Responsibilities:

Disability Services (DS) provides case management, issues payments, manages contracts of many types and connects with Alberta Supports in relation to overlapping processes (e.g., intake). The organization addresses supports and services mandated under the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) and Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) Acts and Regulations to over 12,000 individuals, children and families in the province. The primary purpose of this position is to support the day-to-day casework, policy and/or administrative activities associated with PDD and FSCD.
1. The program support position requires basic knowledge of existing DS legislation, regulations, policies and procedures. Tasks assigned to the program support position augment caseworker functions allowing Caseworkers to focus on individuals and families who most urgently require planning, response and DS funding to access services.
2. The administrative support position encompasses a broad range of jobs involved in providing entry-level administrative, program and office support functions. The work assigned can be fulfilled by individuals with limited to no experience or program knowledge. The emphasis is on learning about the program areas, policies and regulations.
