OPPORTUNITY

MacEwan University is seeking an experienced Supervisor for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Careers & Experience Department. As the Supervisor of Career Development, you will supervise, lead, and support a team that currently includes three Career Development Specialists and two Career Development Assistants. You will be responsible for the oversight of the portfolio, including expanding services, triaging, and prioritizing requests for support, allocating resources where they can make the greatest impact, and developing strategic relationships on and off campus. You will also supervise & train staff, set goals, and manage disputes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • In collaboration with the Director of Careers and Experience, develop and implement a career development strategy to increase opportunities for students and faculty, ensuring that the strategy is tied to the institutional strategy and is aligned with policies and best practices of external agencies such as the Career Development Association of Alberta and the Career Professionals of Canada, among other relevant organizations;
  • Research, develop and plan creative and current programming in line with career development best practices for post-secondary institutions and the needs of MacEwan students;
  • Works with staff to discuss problems, provide solutions and advice, and remove barriers to success through active problem-solving and based on knowledge of established processes, practices and standards;
  • Keeps informed of the MSA collective agreement and other policies, and works with leadership and HR to ensure that team members are aware of the institutional supports available to them; and
  • Triages requests for support/services based on team member capacity and institutional priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of five years of related experience delivering career services, including some supervisory experience is required.
  • Experience supervising staff, ideally in a unionized environment, is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
