General Description of Role: To support the Plant Manager to achieve the prescribed results of the plant with responsibility for organizing, planning, directing, and controlling line manufacturing by H&S, Quality, and Production Standards. This position also has full responsibility for all Process performance indicators including pick-ups, yields, labor hours, bag weights, etc. This position requires a maximum presence on the plant floor.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Become Process experts for the line
  • Line set up and successful shift start on time and in a safe manner
  • Ensure all start-up required forms/reporting are complete
  • Enforce all Company Values and policies (incl. Harassment & Violence in the Workplace, Discipline, Early & Safe Return to Work, Attendance Management, Personal Conduct, etc.)
  • Ensure maintenance of all 5-Zeroes
  • Ensure building and development of cohesive Line Leadership Teams
  • Conduct timely 5-S audits and ensure maintenance of 5-S scores
  • Ensure all employees work safely with and through the Lead Hands
  • Ensure all equipment is safe to operate
  • Ensure good housekeeping
  • Participate in monthly Workplace Inspection Tour as required
  • Conduct full investigations promptly (Discipline, H&S, Attendance Management. etc)
  • Recommend appropriate Discipline, support and deliver Discipline decisions
  • Investigate and complete all Accident Reports immediately. Ensures corrective action is applied immediately (provide/perform First Aid and/or ensure the employee receives Medical Aid)
  • Ensure production standards are maintained including quantity and quality
  • Control of material usage and line downtime
  • Ensure production employees are trained in production and health & safety
  • Hold monthly Health & Safety talks
  • Ensure HACCP Compliance
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance Department to ensure the quality of products
  • Be highly responsive to CFIA Canadian Food Inspection Agency Inspector
  • Manage the shift and employees in keeping with the rules of the Collective Agreement. Be thoroughly familiar with the Collective Agreement
  • Ensure all visitors to the Plant(s) are monitored and follow all Sofina Foods rules
  • Ensure all Health & Safety, Food Safety regulations, and GMPs are maintained i.e. Approved safety shoes, hearing protection, hairnets, etc.
  • Work with H.R. Department to ensure good labor relations are maintained
  • Work closely with the H.R. Department to ensure Modified Work Programs for injured employees are successfully implemented
  • Ensure reports are clear, accurate, and informative. (All needed dates to reflect the day’s events must be recorded. All comments should describe the facts, action taken and results)
  • Supervise the line workers and machine operators to ensure that a safe product at the required quality is being produced as per HACCP, Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manual, and specifications
  • Responsible for production records verification and closing the incident reports
  • Overseeing and managing the plant environment to ensure that a product-safe environment is maintained

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of College Education
  • Knowledge of Visual, Excel, and MS Word
  • Five years of experience as a supervisor in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in managing employees in a unionized environment
  • Strong planning, analytical, negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead meetings with hourly employees
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment
  • Excellent Leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of all Labour and Health & Safety Regulations
  • First Aid Certification
