Description:

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Responsible for supervising the implementation of civil and structural engineering schemes, you will be supervising the day-to-day activities of operatives, gangs & sub-contractors and conducting daily briefings, selection of plant/work equipment and the daily ordering of materials. You will promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with the Authority’s policies & procedures for Health & Safety, including CDM, the delivery of regular toolbox talks, risk assessments, spot checks and accident investigations.
The StreetCare Design and Operations Team are responsible for delivering approximately £20m of work annually with a workforce or approximately 75 staff. Hours of working will include contracted overtime to a total number of weekly of 44 hours per week. This will reflect as pro-rata salary of £40,367 - £43,581pa.
This role will include the use of a provided electric fleet vehicle.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • You must have a Construction Skills Certification Scheme – Supervisory Level or above and New Roads and Street Works Accreditation at Supervisor Level.We also require you to have a Civil Engineering related Level 1 & 2 qualification Driving license Category B.
  • You will have an in depth knowledge & understanding of health & safety legislation including Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • You must have significant relevant experience in the supervision of highway works in particular resurfacing works.
  • It is essential that you have a comprehensive knowledge of civil engineering work equipment, materials and the ability to judge when to make a decision on site and when to refer to the appropriate senior officer.
  • You will have excellent interpersonal skills with a good commitment to customer care and experience of managing staff including performance management.
  • We require you to have good IT skills e.g. Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel and Project.

Responsibilities:

  • On a daily basis you will be planning work activities and supervise staff for schemes of any value undertaken by the section involving individuals, gangs, sub-contractors.
  • You will conduct daily briefings, undertake the daily selection of appropriate plant & materials and ensure a high standard of workmanship at all times.
  • Promoting safe working practices , you will ensure compliance with the Authority’s policies & procedures for Health & Safety, including CDM. This includes delivery of regular toolbox talks, risk assessments, spot checks and accident investigations.
  • In the role you will investigate and decide on appropriate action with respect to enquiries on StreetCare services, providing information and feedback to the public and other stakeholders, proactively or in response to questions or requests for service.
