Description:

Overview:
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for the qualification, development, and maintenance of Edmund Optic’s third-party suppliers. The SQE works closely with the Quality Assurance, Product Line Managers, and Supply Chain business units to improve product quality and Supplier collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing third-party suppliers to ensure they meet Edmund’s supplier expectations for on-time delivery and quality.
  • Conduct Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations both internally and externally to resolve customer concerns and report on findings.
  • Continually work with suppliers to develop process controls and quality plans.
  • Perform quality system audits on third-party suppliers, generate audit reports, and follow up on action items to ensure supplier quality systems improvements.
  • Interact routinely with Marketplace and Manufacturing Service Group to align product specifications with manufacturing capabilities.
  • Read and interpret optics drawings against MIL-PRF-13830, ISO-10110, and ANSI/OEOSC standards.
  • Develop inspection plans for custom and non-custom products using risk assessment tools and methodologies.
  • Create and assess supplier performance, examining trends and establishing metrics for:
  • Receiving and Documentation errors
  • On-Time Delivery
  • Subcontract yield
  • Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR)
  • Customer Return Material Authorization (RMA) request
  • Work with the Supply Chain teams to onboard and qualify potential suppliers.
  • Write detailed visit reports to adequately share Supplier capacity, Quality Management Systems, and overall capabilities.
  • Lead and participate in problem-solving and quality improvement teams throughout the company.
  • Contribute to the overall technical and management teams.
  • Average annual travel: up to 6 weeks domestically; 1 week internationally
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Experience in auditing manufacturing operations; Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) preferred
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Principles and other statistical analysis Quality Tools
  • Experience in ISO-9001 Certification in a Manufacturing Environment
  • Experience in problem solving and quality improvement processes and teams
  • Knowledge of testing and inspection methods/equipment desired
  • Good communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Effective team/interpersonal skills
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • US Citizenship or permanent residence required

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering or technical discipline or equivalent experience; 2+ years technical experience in a Manufacturing Environment
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and operate office equipment such as a copier; ability to see details at a close range; ability to sit at desk or PC for long periods of time; ability to travel.
