GENERAL INFORMATION:

Job title: Surgery Scheduler
Schedules Available: Full-time, 80 hours per pay period; Monday-Friday, 7:00an - 3:30pm
Weekend rotation: No weekends.
Holiday rotation: Paid Time Off for Holidays

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Surgical Scheduler position provides quality customer service and performs OR Department procedure scheduling, secretarial, and clerical duties in a busy, multi-task environment, in accordance with Mile Bluff Medical Center policies and procedures and government regulations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience preferred, but not required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Personality and demeanor to deal with the public and assist ill, older, or distraught patients.
  • Intermediate proficiency with computers is required.
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical competency.
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedules, modifies, and confirms patient surgical procedures into surgical schedule system.
  • Communicates professionally and effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, OR staff, vendors, and public.
  • Demonstrates maturity to perform duties in an independent manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to problem-solve the OR schedule from a variety of perspectives, considers alternatives, and chooses the most appropriate course of action.
  • Performs various clerical functions to include ordering supplies/instruments necessary for surgical procedures.
  • Operate office equipment such as voicemail messaging systems, work processing, spreadsheets, and other software options to prepare reports, meeting minutes, memos, and block schedules.
  • Prepares OR department payroll in accordance with Human Resources.
  • Assist in processing requests for nonmedical services using electronic work order process. Assist in the orientation of new staff. Attends staff meetings or reads minutes.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
