As a System Administrato r, you will perform complex and specialized systems administration support functions. This role involves troubleshooting, detailed analysis, de-bugging, and innovative problem-solving for the servers and virtualization platforms utilized by the University Libraries. You’ll offer expert consulting, technical support, and training to both users and technical staff, ensuring the smooth operation of critical subsystems. As a systems administrator, you will be instrumental in developing, maintaining, installing, and utilization of both server software and hardware, playing a key role in the technological framework supporting our academic community.

Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll do:

  • Administers, installs, and configures a wide range of client servers, including virtual servers and containers, with a focus on network file services.
  • Analyzes system logs to pinpoint potential issues, troubleshoots complex server software and network problems, offering Tier II and assisting with Tier III support .
  • Reviews the accuracy of documentation of server support methods, procedures, and configuration.
  • Implements new technology deployments and system integration testing.
  • Conducts annual security assessments, designs robust system security measures, and develops comprehensive disaster recovery plans.
  • Assists in project planning by developing work plans, identifying necessary personnel and equipment, and outlining project phases and timelines.

Salary Range: Commensurate with education and experience.
Schedule: Provides on-call support on nights and weekends as needed.

A WELL-QUALIFIED CANDIDATE FOR ANY OF THESE POSITIONS WILL ALSO POSSESS:

  • Excellent written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills .
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Linux administration experience with a strong background in scripting or systems programming.
  • Comfortable in a mixed PC, Linux, and Mac environment.
  • Experience with one or more of the following technologies: Red Hat Linux 8, Ubuntu Linux, Ansible, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Network Load Balancing, NGINX, Elasticsearch, NFS. Familiarity with MySQL, PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
