Description:

The secret to our success is our people. While we are ordinary people, we are not all the same. We welcome diversity, in all its forms, in fact we consider it a strength. Join us and work at the heart of national security to protect New Zealand and New Zealanders.
Looking to apply your Linux skills to a role with purpose? Imagine yourself in a room full of engineers and call out was made for a Linux specialist, would you raise your hand? If the answer is yes, you might be the person we’re after.
Our Technology Directorate are looking for an experienced Linux engineer to join our Systems Operations team, where you will play a part in supporting the technology across the Intelligence Community. This role will sit within a team that works cross-functionally so that everyone is able to provide support where needed. Your day-to day in this role will have a mix of support to existing environments and project work, with plenty to keep you busy and engaged.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU TO HAVE:

3+ years’ experience in a system engineer, or relevant position
Linux system administration experience in an enterprise environment
Proven ability to automate tasks and processes using scripting languages and configuration management tools (eg. Ansible and Puppet)
Containerisation and Linux automation experience
Be up to date with emerging technologies, trends and practices - and experience implementing those into a production environment
You will need to be a team player as this is a role, in an environment, where collaboration is valued and encouraged. Enthusiasm, drive, and a strong willingness to learn are also traits we’ll be looking for, along with a keen motivation to work for an organisation like ours.
What can we offer you?
A supportive team environment - we have a friendly and inclusive culture where you can focus and learn. Differences are respected.
Mentorship and professional development opportunities that will help you grow in your career.
Extra benefits - flexible schedule for work/life balance, a fun social club, in-house gym, childcare subsidies, health insurance and eye checks are just some of our everyday perks.
If you have questions about working with us, we’ve busted the most common myths - check out our myth busting booklet https://beyondordinary.nzic.govt.nz/mythbusting
To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
Use this online tool to self-check your eligibility for a TSS security clearance. Please note that this tool is not part of the formal security clearance process: http://www.protectivesecurity.govt.nz/eligibility-tool
The NZIC treats all applications for employment in the strictest confidence and we ask that you maintain a similar level of confidentiality. You are expected to exercise discretion during the recruitment process and throughout your career
