Boeing Vertical Lift Mission Assurance is seeking enthusiastic candidates for Entry Level System Safety Engineer – Cargo Programs to join our System Safety Engineering team in Ridley Park, PA.
We are seeking an entry level engineer to join our Systems Safety team supporting the Cargo Program in Ridley Park, PA (CH-47 Chinook Program). The Chinook program is looking for System Safety Engineers that can assess hazards across a broad range of Subsystems including Airframes, Electrical, Mechanical and Software. This is a unique opportunity to work on proven platforms, ensuring mission success and continuing to ensure aircraft product safety is designed into the Chinook program.
Software Safety influences software requirements, design, and testing using best practices and lessons learned to ensure a product that will perform as intended throughout its life-cycle. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with Avionics/Software teams, other systems experts, test team, suppliers, customers and product end-users to produce hardware, firmware and software that works as designed while minimizing unintended operations and hazards. You’ll have the opportunity to manage hazards across the boundaries of hardware into software and reduce the risks through various means of architecture negotiations with the developers and customers using a systematic approach. You will help design and modify fault trees to ensure a safe and robust system required by aviation platforms for fault tolerance, protecting the lives of the pilots and support crew. You will get exposure to FAA and Military guidelines and how to blend them which will provide a lifelong niche in the field of aviation.

As a System Safety engineer, you will have a unique opportunity to work across the entire life cycle of the program, from conceptual development into design and test, production and sustainment of fielded aircraft. You’ll experience the big picture and fascinating complexities of the defense industry while getting hands on experience on the aircraft.
As a System Safety Engineer, your primary goal will be to identify and mitigate all potential and existing hazards. You will have the opportunity to learn about all of the aircraft subsystems and their interactions while collaborating with the Engineering Design and Subsystem Teams. We are looking for a candidate that can ask the tough questions, challenge conventional thinking and bring potential hazards to our aircraft and crew to light. Typical tasks include assessing a variety of Engineering documents, data and artifacts, while working with the Engineering Teams to determine the safest and most cost-effective solutions to a wide variety of actual and potential hazards. Your assessment will include gathering data from field, factory and engineering, calculating probability and severity of possible outcomes and working with the Design teams to influence a safer more robust system. Successful candidates will have both excellent technical writing and documentation skills.

This program is part of Boeing Defense, Space & Security’s (BDS) Vertical Lift Division located in Ridley Park, PA.
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. Ridley Park, PA. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future. *This position will also be eligible for the Vertical Lift 9x80 alternate work schedule.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)

  • 1+ years of experience in systems, mechanical, electrical and/or software engineering

PAY IS BASED UPON CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS, AS WELL AS MARKET AND BUSINESS CONSIDERATIONS.

Summary pay range for Entry level ( Level 1): $73,100-$98,900

Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify basic lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces
  • Performs analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture
  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success
  • Supports the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes
    This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post Start is required.
