About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
Purpose of role
Business Systems contributes to the development and management of technological solutions and initiatives that help solve Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and business problems and governance for ICT projects, programs and strategies. The team provides system management and oversight of the various systems used to support the QFES frontline service delivery. The team contributes to the formulation of strategy and policy solutions for ICT delivery and works closely with stakeholders and partners to ensure the provision of fit for purpose solutions.
Reporting to the Manager [Systems], you will be a key member of the team, responsible for the effective and efficient support function for the day-to-day running of the QFES operational and community safety systems, including the provision of help desk services, training, advice and continuous improvement recommendations to support state and regional staff to meet organisational objectives. You will contribute to the continuous improvement process to ensure the systems and supporting documentation remain operationally fit for purpose.

  • Possess high level computer skills and an understanding of database design and development.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of documentation and guides, training material and/or training delivery, and ensure effective administrative functions are managed to support applications used by internal and external clients.
  • Undertake data integrity reviews and ensure compliance with the internal audit requirements for the systems, including quality assurance and testing of releases prior to implementation of system enhancements is achieved.
  • Encourage an environment in which high quality services are delivered to users and senior management to meet service delivery requirements.
  • Perform database administrative functions that establish and maintain user confidence, including helpdesk support to all levels of users, maintaining metadata tables and managing user access rights to meet user requirements and business objectives.
  • Ensure tasks are managed in a user focused manner within defined service levels, including problem solving issues, testing and fault finding to maintain systems and provide recommendation for improvement.
  • Undertake User Acceptance, System and Integration testing of application code changes to ensure successful progression to production is achieved.
  • Liaise and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure user, functional and organisational requirements are met and understood, and compliance is maintained.
  • Conduct research for the purposes of developing and/or acquiring suitable data, database administrative tools for the auditing, cleaning, transformation and manipulation of data.
