Job Description
The Systems Administrator I, under general direction, performs routine systems administration support functions.
This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing technical support to users is a significant part of a system administrator’s role. This includes assisting with hardware and software issues, responding to IT support tickets, and sometimes conducting training sessions for staff on new technologies or systems, including how to use and troubleshoot common issues with print services.
  • Maintaining and monitoring the network to ensure it is functioning correctly and efficiently. This includes tasks like setting up network accounts, managing access permissions, and monitoring network performance. It may also involve troubleshooting network issues, which could be related to print services within the network.
  • Installing and updating software applications, as well as setting up and maintaining hardware devices like servers, computers, and printers. This might include ensuring that all devices are compatible with the print services and troubleshooting any conflicts or issues that arise.
  • Overseeing and maintaining the departments print centers needs. Duties include installing and configuring large-format printers, managing print queues, troubleshooting printer issues, and ensuring drivers are up to date. The administrator might also be responsible for monitoring printer usage to optimize resource allocation and reduce costs.
  • Maintenance and Upkeep of Computer Labs: This involves regularly checking the hardware and software in computer labs. It includes ensuring that all computers, networking equipment, and peripherals (like printers, scanners, projectors) are in good working condition, performing hardware repairs or upgrades as needed, and installing or updating software to ensure that all systems are up-to-date and running efficiently.

Special Requirements:

  • Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of six years of experience.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of intermediate troubleshooting, client relations, formulating and contributing ideas, and the Information Technology Interface Library (ITIL).
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Preferred Experience:

  • 3 years in related technology area.
  • Experience with technology troubleshooting, video production and print management.
