About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
Purpose of role
Business Systems contributes to the development and management of technological solutions and initiatives that help solve Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and business problems and governance for ICT projects, programs and strategies. The team provides system management and oversight of the various systems used to support the QFES frontline service delivery. The team contributes to the formulation of strategy and policy solutions for ICT delivery and works closely with stakeholders and partners to ensure the provision of fit for purpose solutions.
Reporting to the Manager [Systems], you will be a key member of the team, responsible for the effective and efficient support function for the day-to-day running of the QFES operational and community safety systems, including the provision of help desk services, training, advice and continuous improvement recommendations to support state and regional staff to meet organisational objectives. The Systems Analyst will also be responsible for the planning and scheduling, development, management, configuration, and support of applications.

  • Have experience in database administration and/or possess high level computer skills and an understanding of database design and development.
  • Experience or understanding in Structured Query Language (SQL) for Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Provide relevant information, statistics and reports to assist in the business planning processes for branch initiatives and support sustainability of the systems.
  • Manage the provision of programming and analytical support, including the development of present and future strategic information systems and the interface/alignment between QFES systems.
  • Provide Tier 2 support of systems modules and assist in the day to day running of the helpdesk functions for all applications used by internal and external clients.
  • Oversee the process for conducting research for the purposes of developing and/or acquiring suitable data, database administrative tools for auditing, cleaning, transformation and manipulation of data.
  • Analyse data and provide reports, including creation of ad hoc reports as required, and the development of recurrent reporting tools where there is an identified need.
  • Manage the overall change control process, including liaising with management, users and programmers on issues, upcoming changes and/or requirements to ensure system performance and user confidence.
  • Assist with project initiatives, system and integration testing, including prioritisation and development processes for system enhancements and bug fixes, ensuring appropriate documentation is developed.
  • Ensure tasks are managed in a user-focused manner within defined service levels, including undertaking problem solving and fault finding of issues to meet functional and organisational requirements.
