Description:

We are currently seeking a Systems Engineer for a 3-6 month Fixed Term Contract. This person must be able to work on-site and start immediately.
The Role

The role of a Systems Engineer is crucial in ensuring the seamless operation and maintenance of IT infrastructure. They are tasked with managing and monitoring installed systems, configuring and testing software, and maintaining the integrity of both on-premise and cloud-based platforms. Their expertise in solution identification and design is vital for the implementation of robust infrastructure solutions that cater to the needs of the organization and its clientele. With a focus on continuous improvement, they contribute significantly to the operational excellence of business-as-usual activities.

  • Install and maintain operating systems across various platforms.
  • Manage software upgrades and apply necessary patches to the operating system.
  • Conduct technical fault analysis, troubleshoot, and resolve problems.
  • Serve as a liaison between vendors and customers for infrastructure support issues.
  • Implement solutions, including the deployment of new systems, technologies, or infrastructure enhancements.
  • Utilize monitoring tools to measure and investigate system performance.
  • Regularly run and verify backups to ensure data integrity.
  • Review and update all relevant documentation regularly to reflect current systems and practices.

Experience Required

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the IT industry.
  • Involvement in large-scale technical projects with enterprise-sized networks.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and documentation.
  • Knowledge across various technologies:
  • Core Microsoft technologies (AD, Printing, DHCP, DNS)
  • Cloud technologies (Office365, Exchange Online, Azure, AWS)
  • Virtualization technologies (e.g., VMWare)
  • Storage technologies (SAN, DAS, NAS)
  • Application delivery (e.g., RDS, Citrix XenDesktop 7.x)
  • Data protection, backup, and recovery
  • Core applications (MS Exchange, SQL)
  • Platform monitoring and management (SCCM, SCOM)
  • Windows deployment and patching
  • PowerShell scripting
  • Experience with infrastructure projects, including component replacement or upgrades.
  • Understanding of connectivity and functionality in distributed environments.
