Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The Network Engineer II is responsible for the overall architecture of wired and wireless networks and provides the discipline to ensure that investments in process, information and technology support the Hospital’s strategic goals. The Network Engineer II has a strong understanding of the healthcare business and a detailed understanding of healthcare technologies and assists in the development of long term strategic vision that is used as a context for short-term tactical decisions. The Network Engineer II will also act as an advisor for all hardware software and network issues. The Network Engineer II must develop work habits and proper communication skill that reflect the Mission and Philosophy of Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center. Reflects the mission, philosophy, core values, and customer service plan of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in action and attitude. All activities are directed at all departments serving all age groups.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Associates Degree in Computer Sciences or a related field required. A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field, or progress towards a Bachelors degree is preferred. Intermediate level certification such as MCSA, CCNA, or VCP or comparable required
Training:
Previous technical training required. On the job training with Information Systems will be provided. The individual must adapt quickly and apply learned principles and techniques to complex situations.
Experience:
Four to five years of experience as a Network Engineer is required. Hospital Experience is preferred.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs technical tasks related to the design, implementation, and maintenance of the physical wiring plant of the hospital.
  • Manages and provides Tier 3 support for all networking topologies.
  • Plans, coordinates, installs, tracks movement, and repairs of all network related equipment, including but not limited to switches, routers, wireless access points, and firewalls. This requires interaction with staff and outside vendors.
  • Supports the MEDITECH UNIVERSE application, device setting, and troubleshooting server and network problems.
  • Works closely with hospital departments, other information systems technical staff, and vendors in project planning of complex network configurations. Prepares instructions and documentation for installation personnel, oversees the project, and provides status updates to management. Identifies and resolves problems which may impact project results.
  • Proactively monitors and analyzes network data to identify trends and determine ideal solution. Recommends and implements network configuration changes based on performance needs.
  • Develops and maintains documentation of all incidents and procedures on equipment, services performed, and configuration specifications to establish a history and reference source.
  • Maintains awareness of potential security issues/vulnerabilities, alerts on-site staff of potential security issues/vulnerabilities, and eliminates or assists in eliminating potential security issues/vulnerabilities in the hospital.
  • Assists Help Desk Personnel in supporting their customer’s needs.

Secondary Duties:

  • Assists other Information Systems personnel with special projects.
  • As needed, uses MSWord or Excel to compose memos, letters and reports.
  • As required, participates in on call rotation to assist users with emergency situations. Must be able to use the laptop computer to access the system remotely and assess/solve the situation.
  • Periodically attends classes, seminars or on-site training to maintain or enhance currently needed skills.
  • As required, works weekends for user support or project implementation.

Physical Demands:
Moderate physical effort is required. The incumbent could possibly lift up to a 50 pound piece of equipment. The incumbent may be required to sit for an extended period of time. Consistent operation of a computer will be required.
Special Demands:
Although the position is for day shift, it requires infrequent odd hours. It also will require being on-call to Network Applications. Workload will be varied and irregular in nature, must be able to manage multiple projects at one time. Reflects the mission, philosophy, core values, and customer service plan of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in action and attitude.

This position will be a Systems Engineer/Admin position that will be responsible for servers, storage, Active Directory, Exchange, backups, VMware, VEEAM, Exagrid, patching, upgrades, web filtering, email filtering, etc
