The Research to Operations Program (R2O) program was established in 2020 to accelerate operational improvements in the Bureau’s numerical environmental and weather prediction (NEWP) capabilities. R2O provides the development pathway to operationalise NEWP models and post-processing systems centred on the high-performance computing (HPC) production environment. R2O sits within the Science and Innovation Group (SIG) and is an integral component of the Bureau’s customer-centric model of resilient national operations.
Systems Integration (SI) is a highly technical team within the Value and Quality section of R2O. The SI team design and develop data solutions that interlock with HPC and large-volume operational model outputs. The team is R2O’s custodian for technological approaches to post-processing and standardisation of gridded dataset services. SI activities are closely aligned with ongoing developments in NEWP and the Bureau’s operational patterns and are a crucial link in realising the benefits of the Bureau’s Research and Development Plan 2020-2030.
As Team Leader for SI you will have a unique opportunity to provide leadership and direction to an expanding multidisciplinary team of scientific specialists. You will foster an inclusive team culture and drive excellence in solution development and software practice. Shaping and nurturing internal collaboration relationships across the Bureau will be a crucial to effectively marshalling expertise to deliver operational outcomes. You will draw on professional judgement to balance guiding technical matters with engaging with strategic influence to deliver SI solutions that best support the Bureau’s weather, climate, water and marine services.
