The Oklahoma City Systems Safety Engineering and Mission Assurance team is rapidly growing and seeking a Systems Safety Engineering and Mission Assurance Manager (Level K) to lead the E-3 AWACS and Presidential Airlift Commercial Derivative teams at our Boeing Defense site in Oklahoma City (OKC), OK.
OKC boasts a robust and expanding portfolio of iconic US and international aircraft, encompassing over 25 platforms like the 707, 737, 747, 757, 767, and 777 aircraft derivatives, including prestigious platforms such as Air Force One, E-4B, C-32, C-40, B-1, B-2, B-52, E-3 AWACS, E-7 AEW&C, KC-135, KC-10, with more on the horizon. Our dynamic team extends beyond Oklahoma City, frequently supporting programs across the enterprise in Seattle, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Mesa, Southern California, and Huntsville Alabama, covering platforms like P-8, KC-46, F-15, F-18, vertical lift, and space systems. As a manager, you will be managing a team of systems safety and mission assurance engineers, across the OKC portfolio, with the mission to grow the safety and mission assurance brand across the Boeing enterprise. You will also lead Oklahoma City Site Safety review boards and present at MS&B and BDS/CEO safety review boards, demonstrating top-level company visibility. You’ll oversee high-visibility short-term projects for senior BDS leadership, ensuring effective resolution of critical safety issues. Your role involves developing robust processes and training programs for BDS and the enterprise, executing programs within the SEIT function with a focus on Product Safety, and contributing significantly to overall safety and operational excellence. This position will give you the opportunity to grow your network while working with program chief engineers, program managers, and other functional leaders, by building trust through purposeful collaboration to proactively reduce risk across the product life cycle.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
- 5+ years of engineering experience.
- 1+ years of experience within aerospace.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
- Experience in one or more following engineering disciplines: Systems Engineering, Safety Engineering, Human Factors, Certification, Aerospace, or other aircraft related fields.
- 5+ years of experience in leading teams.
- Understanding of Airworthiness Requirements Compliance
- Experience with Commercial Derivative and/or military Aircraft Programs.
- Experience managing projects and associated project risks and be committed to balancing program risks
- Technical experience in system/unit requirements definition, implementation, validation, and verification, and in emerging technology and avionics/electrical/human engineering standards
Responsibilities:
- This position leads and manages a team of 13-15 employees on-site.
- Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the area of System Safety and Mission Assurance.
- Develops and executes project and process plans, implement policies and procedures and set operational goals.
- Acquires resources for projects and processes, provide technical management of suppliers and lead process improvements.
- Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports.
- Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.
- Manages, develops, trains, and motivates employees.
- Participates in the entire acquisition process of military aircraft from proposal to preliminary design, and onwards to detailed design, test, and production.
- Becomes an expert in aircraft system functions and model-based systems engineering.
- Decomposes and analyzes systems down to their low-level hardware and software components.
- Performs analysis to optimize systems design and their availability in the most critical moments.
- Manages the vulnerabilities in the system design.
- Sets requirements, and ensure the integrity of systems and components development.
- Interacts and collaborates with the customer, cross-functional teams, and program management.
This is an engineering position concerning product and aircraft safety. This is not an Environmental Health and Safety position.
