Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of the quarterly UK tax reporting pack for US GAAP reporting and liaison with the US tax team.
  • Preparation of UK and non-UK statutory tax disclosures and tax balances as part of the year-end process.
  • Preparation of corporate tax computations and filings and responsibility for associated matters (e.g. tax payments, BEPS Pillar 2, CbCR, Transfer Pricing, Interest Restrictions, Senior Accounting Officer, withholding taxes etc).
  • Preparation and submission of information to Lloyd’s for centrally-prepared returns.
  • Tax forecasting.
  • Support the Indirect Tax Manager with the preparation of indirect tax filings for VAT, Premium Tax (and similar) and US FET.
  • Liaison with/ management of internal teams, HMRC, external auditors and advisers.
  • First point of contact for underwriters, brokers, the US tax and group finance teams, HR and the wider group including on FATCA and Certificates of UK Tax Residence.
  • Support with/ management of tax investigations and tax input to UK / group M&A/ projects.
  • Awareness of existing/ analysis of new UK and worldwide tax developments, and provision of advice on UK and group implications.
  • Contributing to team planning, budgeting and organisation.

Skills / Competencies

  • The ability to independently organise, prioritise and manage several strands work to make best use of available resource to produce coherent, timely outcomes.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate tax-technical issues to a non-tax audience.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A collaborative and inclusive approach to developing strong working relationships with all stakeholders and the ability to manage conflicting views.
  • Confidence to ask questions/ challenge information provided and initiative especially in dealing with areas of ambiguity.
  • A proactive attitude to identifying problems/ better ways of working and recommending/ implementing solutions.
  • A willingness to challenge yourself to quickly adapt to unfamiliar issues, systems and processes.

Qualifications
Accounting/ tax qualification (e.g. ACA/ACCA/ATT/CTA) preferred but not essential if proven to operate at that level

Experience

  • Direct and Indirect UK tax experience - essential
  • International tax experience - preferred
  • Financial reporting experience and familiarity with use of accounting software packages (i.e. Great Plains, FRX reporting) - preferred
  • Familiarity with use of Microsoft Office software - essential
