Summary Statement
CDS recognizes and affirms the ministry of teaching as a God-ordained vocation. Although teachers may not be
“officially ordained” by a commonly known or recognized religious order, they are essential and full-time ministers of
the Christian faith, the CDS Statement of Faith, and the educational philosophy and objectives of Calvary Day School
to students, faculty, and co-workers. This document provides a framework of qualifications, duties, and responsibilities
to assure the orderly operation of an exemplary program at Calvary Day School. The teacher will prayerfully help
students learn attitudes, skills, and subject matter that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and
responsible Christian men and women to the praise and glory of God.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS OR STANDARDS

The teacher will have made a profession of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
The teacher will faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with the
Statement of Faith of Calvary Day School.
The staff member will be a person of spiritual maturity with academic and leadership abilities that will allow them to
“train up a child in the way he should go.”
The teacher will reflect the purpose of the school which is to honor Christ in every class and in every activity.
The teacher shall be a college graduate and one who feels called of God to the teaching profession.
The teacher must acquire and maintain certification through the Association of Christian Schools International.
Other qualifications may be added by the Day School Committee as deemed appropriate.
Affirm the CDS Statement of Faith and the ACSI Statement of Faith and abide by the Code of Professional Conduct
and CDS Lifestyle Statement

Responsibilities:

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

The teacher is to arrive at school 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the school day for students in his/her division and
remain 30 minutes after the close of the school day for students of that division. (Part-time teachers must adhere to their
specified hours as agreed with the principal.)
The teacher is to maintain an accurate record of daily attendance, lunch count, and other appropriate activities.
The teacher is to keep receipts for money spent and give these to the appropriate administrative assistant for
reimbursement when pre-approved by the principal.
Lesson plans will be written and submitted to the principal as directed by him/her..
The teacher will take inventory of supplies periodically, determine needed items in advance, and then give the list to the
appropriate secretary for purchasing.
The teacher is to record current grades.
The teacher will use homework effectively for drill, review, enrichment or project work.
The teacher will keep students, parents, and the administration adequately informed of progress or deficiencies and give
sufficient notice of failure of students under supervision.
The teacher is to maintain a neat, orderly classroom so that the students will learn to care for and respect personal and
school property.
The teacher is to meet periodically with the principal and other teachers to plan field trips and other enrichment
activities.
When illness occurs the teacher should follow the directions given during orientation for securing a substitute and
informing the divisional administrative assistant.
The teacher is expected to maintain discipline and orderliness at lunch, in the classroom, hallways, bathrooms and
playground.
The teacher is to assist the students as they are picked up after school.
The teacher is expected to maintain a neat personal appearance, thereby setting a good example for the students and
parents.
It is expected that teachers refrain from gossiping about students, parents, fellow teachers, and will apply biblical
principles in solving problems in these areas.
The teacher will protect individual rights of students and be sensitive to individual needs. The teacher is in a position
to receive confidential information and must handle that information responsibly and confidentially.
All Upper school teachers will attend Camp Hanes or Windy Gap depending upon the assignment by the Upper School
principal.
If any teacher has reason to suspect that a child is abused, neglected, or died as the result of maltreatment, he/she must
report it to North Carolina’s child protection agency, or the Director of the Department of Social Services in the county
where the juvenile resides.
