Description:

In August 2024, the Senior School at Brighton College (Singapore) will open with Years 7, 8 and 9. All Senior School teachers will teach across these three year groups in their first year. The Teacher of Science will teach all three disciplines at Key Stage 3. As the school grows, the successful candidate will be expected to teach at least one science discipline to IGCSE/GCSE and A-level as well, and they should be able to demonstrate a strong track record of delivering top academic results in public exams in previous roles. This is an exciting opportunity for an educationalist to help shape the development of a secondary curriculum that will provide a springboard for pupils to go on to some of the world’s leading universities. Once in role, the Teacher of Science will be instrumental in ensuring that the delivery of biology, chemistry and physics in the Senior School aligns with the Brighton College commitment to building a world-class academic institution, distinctive in its own right, but with the Brighton College DNA at its core.The position of Teacher of Science represents a career-defining, professional challenge for a candidate who is excited by the opportunity of growing a love of learning in young people. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science subject (or any other specialism related to science) with PGCE or equivalent.
  • Expert knowledge or experience of successfully delivering GCSEs/IGCSEs and A-level.
  • International experience (preferred but not essential).
  • Exemplifies the Brighton College (Singapore) values of Curiosity, Confidence and Kindness.
  • An international outlook and understanding of working in diverse environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for the teaching, progress and attainment of all pupils in Years 7 to 9 from August 2024, and for all other senior year groups in the following years.
  • Lead on all aspects of the science curriculum planning and delivery, including preparation for the first IGCSE Year 10 cohorts starting in August 2025.
  • Demonstrate the experience of and ability to teach at least one of the three sciences (biology, chemistry or physics) across all relevant Key Stages (including IGCSE/GCSE and A-level).
  • Promote excellence, creativity and innovation in all areas of the science curriculum.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Lead aspects of the assessment, tracking and reporting for science.
  • Act as an outstanding classroom practitioner, with the ability to lead by example.
  • Implement the department’s extension and enrichment programme.
  • Demonstrate the expertise needed to support pupils in future years with applications to leading universities, including Oxford and Cambridge and other world-class universities.
  • Ensure pupils have opportunities to prepare for, and participate in, global science competitions and Olympiads, providing appropriate stretch and challenge.
  • Work closely with the EAL and AEN departments to ensure the needs of all pupils are met.
  • Work with the Prep School science specialists and the Head of Science to manage a smooth transition from Year 6 to Year 7.
  • Work with colleagues in the department to ensure all relevant documentation and curriculum information is up to date, both for current and prospective parents.
  • Contribute to the highest standards of safeguarding and to the school’s pastoral system, acting as a tutor for a Senior School year group.
  • Contribute to the co-curricular life of the school.
  • Support the school and department in line with all other reasonable management requests.
