Description:

Emerald is a large country town that is widely regarded as the hub of the Central Highlands. A gateway to one of the largest sapphire field in the southern hemisphere it is a wide range of industry including coal mining and agricultural production including cotton, grape, citrus and grain growing. Emerald sits 270km west of Rockhampton and 878km north-west of Brisbane. Emerald offers plenty to see and do with something available for a wide range of interests. A truly unique sight, the 25 metre tall replica of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers painting can be found at the town visitor centre. There are also multiple historical attractions with the National Trust classified railway station, historical precinct and 250 million year old fossilised wood all popular attractions. Just a short drive from the town is Lake Maraboon and Fairbairn Dam.
