Description:

About the team we are recruiting to
We value diverse perspectives and experiences and are striving to create a workplace culture that is inclusive, is accepting of all and is free from discrimination and bias.
The Education Entitlement Service (EES) strives to deliver outstanding services for our customers, predominately the children of Coventry, who may be requiring access to education or alternative education provision. We ensure vulnerable children are appropriately supported; have a voice, that hopefully leads to their high achievement and excellent progress.
The EES is made up of a diverse range of teams all working together to recognise, support and apply innovative solutions to address the growing issues in relation to trying to educate some of our most vulnerable pupils in schools.
The Hospital Education Service (HES) provides education for pupils from age 4-16 years, some of whom are taught on the Children’s Ward within the local large general hospital; others aged 11-16 years are taught at Whitmore Park Annexe or on home tuition.
What is the job role?

THE HOSPITAL EDUCATION SERVICE IS A TRANSITION SERVICE WITH THREE KEY PROVISIONS:

  • Hospital school at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire
  • Home tuition service
  • Pupil referral unit based at Whitmore Park Annexe

Pupils are referred to our service in the following ways:

  • By a hospital consultant following a child’s discharge from hospital due to injury or surgery
  • By a CAMHS consultant recommending a period of intervention
  • By medical professionals following a child’s discharge from a Tier 4 provision
  • Via the Extended School Non-Attendance Advisory Panel (ESNAAP).

The role is to supervise and support the teaching, and related activities, of individuals or groups of pupils to facilitate their learning as well as their social and emotional development.
If you would like to visit the hospital school prior to, or after applying, please contact Liz Morsehead on 02476967014 on a Thursday or Friday.
If you would like further information on our service please visit our website https://www.coventry.gov.uk/hospitaleducationservice
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
Are you an enthusiastic and caring teaching assistant who is looking for a new challenge? If so, please consider joining our small (but wonderful!) staff team on the wards of University Hospital Coventry.
Hospital Education Service is seeking a teaching assistant to work predominantly with primary-aged pupils during their stay in hospital. Pupils come from both mainstream and special schools, so experience in either (or both!) would be valuable. Every day is different on the wards, so the successful candidate will be adaptable and confident in interacting with a wide variety of adults and children. Full details of the post requirements can be found on the Job Description & Person Specification.
Monday – Friday – 9am- 3pm
Following recommendations from Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) for an additional pre employment check with effect 1 Sept 22, please note, an online search may form part of this recruitment process.
