Description:
The Department of Psychology at East Carolina University (ECU) invites applications for a fixed-term Teaching Assistant Professor or Teaching Associate Professor, beginning July 1, 2024. This 12-month, non-tenure track, position will require 50% effort devoted to serving as the Program Coordinator for the department’s new 100% online undergraduate Psychology program and 50% effort devoted to online undergraduate instruction in that program. The online Bachelor of Arts program, part of a new UNC System online education partnership called Project Kitty Hawk (PKH) (Project Kitty Hawk – UNC System (northcarolina.edu) is designed to primarily serve adult learners and part-way-home students and is a critical component of the department, college, and university’s strategic plan. Regarding undergraduate instructional requirements, needs exist in all areas of the curriculum, and candidates can expect to regularly teach both core (e.g., introductory psychology, statistics, research methods) and elective (e.g., developmental, abnormal, social) courses. Candidates will have responsibility for the content-related design and instruction of these courses with support from instructional designers. The expected course load is five 6-8 week asynchronous, online courses per calendar year. Anticipated Program Coordinator responsibilities include assessing program needs and coordinating course scheduling and program assessment for the online undergraduate program, serving on the department’s Undergraduate Committee contributing to the department’s representation on the college’s Undergraduate Council; remaining up-to-date on the relevant policies and procedures regarding majors, minors, the Honors College, and general education requirements; attend (in person or virtually) department program director and faculty meetings; serve as a liaison between the department and Project Kitty Hawk (PKH); and in conjunction with PKH, providing advising and guidance to students in the online program. This position may be eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) ranging from face-to-face to fully remote under the ECU FWA Policy.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A PhD from an appropriately accredited institution in any subfield of psychology is required, along with a record of effective undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will be appointed at the title of either Teaching Assistant Professor or Teaching Associate Professor. For appointment at the title of Teaching Associate Professor, candidates must fulfill the requirements of the appointment of Teaching Assistant Professor and have demonstrated consistent and recognized achievements in teaching and program administration.
