Description:

The University of Manchester Library is one of only five National Research Libraries and the third largest academic library in the UK. Our vast and rich collections (both print and digital) help us to deliver a world class library and information service for the University of Manchester. We sit at the heart of the University experience for both learning and research and are fully committed to widening access to our expertise, collections and services to individual researchers, local schools, and others in the community.
A key role of the Library is supporting students and staff at Manchester and in the wider community to access, analyse and explore its collections, resources and expertise. The Teaching, Learning and Students (TLS) team leads the way on Library teaching activity and student support and is the home of My Learning Essentials, My Research Essentials, Specialist Library Services and Widening Access programmes. The TLS team is part of the Directorate for Faculty and Student Partnerships and works closely with colleagues in Customer Services and Engagement, in addition to teaching staff throughout the Library and University.
We are looking to appoint a Teaching and Learning Librarian to work within the TLS team. This post focuses on teaching and student support, with an emphasis on academic and information literacy skills. The role also requires the ability to prioritise tasks and information along with strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues, students, and delivery partners. Other duties will include participation in the quality assurance processes of the team’s training materials and working with the Student Team in the delivery of services and support. Whilst in the post the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to take part in professional development activities, such as the Advance HE fellowship and other applicable programmes.
Any successful applicant for the posts will be expected to evidence and demonstrate their ability to teach, develop teaching materials and work as part of a collective and collaborative culture, using our inclusive and accessible guidance and teaching and learning principles. A summary version of our inclusive guidance can be found here: https://education.library.manchester.ac.uk/staff-facing-content/recruitment/2022/For%20recruitment%20202206%20-%20QA%20intro.docx
The principles of teaching and learning overview can be found here: https://education.library.manchester.ac.uk/staff-facing-content/recruitment/2022/LibraryTLprinciplesDRAFT.pptx
As a first element of the shortlisting process, we will assess candidate’s applications against the person specification in the job description. To make the most effective use of your application, please clearly state in the additional information section what experience you have for each element of the person specification, doing your best to evidence all the essential knowledge, skills and experience. If this is a new process for you, or you would like some support, please do not hesitate to contact the hiring manager (email below).
After the initial shortlisting process, candidates will be invited to short in-person or online interviews, in order for the interview panel and the candidate to ask further questions and add more detail to the application. Those asked to move on after this stage will have demonstrated how their own experience will support them in the role and will be invited to an on campus interview that will involve a teaching demonstration for selected students and staff and a chance to meet other members of Library and University staff.
