POSITION DETAIL:

We are looking for an experienced Team Lead for Civil/Mechanical Engineering to join our team. This position is hybrid based from Quebec.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Team Lead, Civil/Mechanical Engineering is responsible for serving as lead for mechanical and civil disciplines with a focus on assignments associated with civil and dam safety work in support of FirstLight’s Canadian operations. Will coordinate with the Engineering Manager and in-house Engineering staff to ensure high standards for dam safety, compliance and public safety. Work assignments will include projects located throughout Canada.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, required; Civil discipline preferred;
  • Professional Engineering license from Ontario and Quebec (P.Eng. , ing.) or ability to obtain within one year;
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French (written and spoken), required;
  • 7+ years of relevant engineering experience including project management; experience in hydroelectric plants, Ontario and Quebec Dam Safety regulations preferred;
  • Strong analytical and reporting experience;
  • Prior experience working independently with a strong sense of accountability;
  • Outstanding organizational and written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to travel within Canada frequently and to the US on occasion; must have a valid driver’s license;
  • Must be proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

QUALIFICATIONS / COMPÉTENCES PROFESSIONNELLES :

  • Baccalauréat en génie, requis ; de préférence en génie civil ;
  • Licence professionnelle d’ingénieur de l’Ontario et du Québec (P.Eng., ing.) ou capacité d’obtenir dans un délai d’un an ;
  • Maîtrise bilingue de l’anglais et du français (écrit et parlé), requise ;
  • 7+ années d’expérience pertinente en ingénierie, incluant la gestion de projet ; préférence pour l’expérience dans les centrales hydroélectriques et la connaissance des règlements de sécurité des barrages de l’Ontario et du Québec ;
  • Solide expérience en analyse et en rédaction de rapports ;
  • Expérience préalable de travail autonome avec un fort sens des responsabilités ;
  • Excellentes compétences en organisation et en communication écrite et verbale ;
  • Capacité à voyager fréquemment au Canada et aux États-Unis à l’occasion ; possession d’un permis de conduire valide nécessaire ;
  • Maîtrise de MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint et Outlook).

Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering and technical support on civil/dam safety projects;
  • Supervise a small multidiscipline team of Engineers, Technicians and Drafters;
  • Support equipment/facility inspections and prepare routine internal and external reports;
  • Perform project management functions on CAPEX and major maintenance projects;
  • Perform Dam Safety Inspections and Public Safety Assessments;
  • Provide oversight of contractors and consultants;
  • Ensure assignments meet quality standards, regulatory requirements and are completed on time and within budget;
  • Develop schedules and evaluate work plans required to support engineering assignments;
  • Document maintenance and repair activities including for dam safety; coordinate assignments with other station departments and associated Company and contractor activities;
  • Support all aspects of dam safety at the plants;
  • Communicate polices and expectations regarding dam safety and regulatory compliance;
  • Prepare technical studies and reports;
  • Perform cost-benefit analyses in support of proposed engineering assignments;
  • Prepare specifications and evaluate proposals for contractor and consultant’s services and/or equipment purchases;
  • Complies with all Corporate policies and procedures;
  • Carries out other duties as assigned.
