Description:

The Therapies department is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and highly specialised physiotherapist with previous experience in acute areas of physiotherapy to lead our urgent and emergency team at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
You will utilise the knowledge and skills gained through previous experience to lead in the assessment and implementation of physiotherapy intervention within our busy ED, our new OPAL (Older Persons Assessment and Liaison) unit as well as our 2 short stay areas.
If successful, you will be required to work flexibly across multiple areas and with patients of differing specialities including orthopaedics, medicine, surgery, and some oncology patients many of which have complex needs. The post holder will need highly developed critical thinking and clinical reasoning to ensure patient safety in maintained at all times.
The position will work within an integrated physiotherapy and occupational therapy team, working collaboratively with the band 7 OT for the team.
You will be supported with yearly appraisals and dedicated CPD time and will be involved in providing weekly in-service training and regular supervision to more junior staff.
This post will suit an experienced band 6 looking to progress in their career or a return to practice candidate with previous experience.
The post is part time (30 hours per week) working across a 7-day rota for a 2-year fixed term period.
On a daily basis to provide skilled team leadership in planning and delivering the high standards of physiotherapy assessment, management, treatment and advice to patients within the emergency department (ED), the Frailty Unit (OPAL) and Short Stay wards.
To take a major role in the advanced assessment and management of patients within this specialty who may have a complex presentation and / or a multi-pathology presentation, determining best delivery of care, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
To work as an autonomous professional according to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) “Rules of Professional Conduct” and “Standards of Physiotherapy”, and the Health Care Professions Council’s (HCPC) regulations.
To undertake service reviews / audits in order to evaluate quality, efficiency and outcomes with a view to implementing change of practice, to ensure that a high standard of clinical practice and patient care is maintained.
To develop relationships with professional colleagues locally, regionally and nationally if required to develop clinical pathways relevant to the speciality.
Take a lead role in the supervision, teaching and appraisal of physiotherapists, non-qualified physiotherapy staff & students to graduate level, and multi-disciplinary team (MDT) staff in the physiotherapeutic care of patients within this specialty
