POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Superintendent, Surface Mining, and working two (2) weeks on two (2) weeks off rotation at the Ekati Mine site, the successful candidate will ensure safe and efficient production of the surface mining operations.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum 5 years open pit mining experience minimum;
  • Minimum 2 years’ supervisory experience;
  • Open pit shift boss certification;
  • Surface mine rescue certification;
  • Valid first-aid ticket;
  • The successful candidate will be an effective leader, willing to spend necessary time and effort to coach and mentor team members;
  • The incumbent will have excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships in a unionized environmen

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for employee development through one-on-one coaching and mentoring;
  • Assign work and supervise the performance of personnel working on the Surface Mining team;
  • Support the concept of Zero Harm through effective safety, health and environment management practices;
  • Initiate the investigation of all accidents and incidents;
  • Consistently meet the budgeted mining targets;
  • Participate with Technical Services and Mobile Maintenance in the execution of the mining plan and maintenance schedule;
  • Manage the cost per ton for the department through continuous improvement and engage in departmental improvement projects;
  • Ensures company policies and standard operating procedures are followed;
  • Required to work with and thoroughly understand the WENCO fleet monitoring and data collection system;
  • Contribute to the development of the mining plan.

    Education/Experience
